ABOUT

All of my artwork is rooted in drawing, and combines traditional explorations of color, shape, surface and scale with expressive line work. I follow an inner, personal narrative which is fueled by my natural curiosity.

Currently I’m working on painting and drawings that draw heavily from somewhat obscure Golden Age artists such as Melchior d’Hondecoeter; modernizing elements of their paintings and adding them to my own more flat, contemporarily-hued compositions. In addition to my traditional artwork, an ongoing project involves creating imagery that is reminiscent of classical painting with artificial intelligence. This serendipitous, textual process can render lovely, if sometimes unsettling artworks. I curate the artworks, but do not aesthetically manipulate them. I also occasionally take photographs. These are extremely personal and focus on storytelling with expression, body language and landscape imagery. The photos of Re(Act), were taken during Covid. Feeling isolated translated into jumping in front of the camera and creating a dialogue with myself. Now I continue with the self-portraits, taking photos of myself one day a year. With the rural midwest photographs of Comet I seek to portray an everyplace and a no-place; an uncertain, overlooked, middle.

I grew up in rural Minnesota and received a BA in Art from Macalester College. I have shown my work nationally, including exhibitions at Box Heart Gallery (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania), Site:Brooklyn (Brooklyn, New York), Dab Art (Ventura, California), Punch Projects, (Seattle, Washington) and the Alexandria Museum (Alexandria, Louisiana). I live and work in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I am represented by Boxheart Gallery, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. My work is also available for purchase at the Ann Arbor Art Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
